Fly and new flash

I now have a shiny new Canon 270EX II flash to replace the cheap old Jessops one I was using on macro flash diffuser V1. These photos were a first test, also using a new shop-bought mini-softbox diffuser, although it was a bit bulky for my liking. I’m now testing a smaller version of the softbox but with paper inside to further diffuse the light. I might post some pics of the diffuser at some point for fellow macro-geeks to enjoy!

For now, here’s an unidentified fly which was quietly minding its own business on a plant in the dining room before I came and blitzed it repeatedly with the flash. Very impressed with the results! The lens was stopped down to f8.0 for maximum sharpness on the eyes, as you can see in the close crops.
