(6) Wellbeing, Career Change, and Growth – life lessons and new beginnings from growing bonsai seeds

The Wellbeing and Growth story continues.. life lessons and insight from watching seeds grow 🌱✨.

The gift of a Bonsai tree, 3 years ago, from Heather Egginton, gave me so many insights and sparked an idea to measure progress against a Wellbeing mission by visualising the action I was taking as leaves on a tree and remembering that change takes time and continued effort.

That led me then to focus on Wellbeing in my leadership role, join the Samaritans as a Listener, move into a People Transformation role, and launch and chair a Wellbeing network.

Since leaving my corporate career a year ago, a change that has been a tougher transition that I anticipated, aided with support from a wonderful network of people, I have continued to plant wellbeing seeds – Coaching others through desired change, taking on a Public Partner role in a Mental Health steering group, as well as taking on additional volunteering roles at the Samaritans.

I’m excited to see what deeper insights I can gain from growing a number of Bonsai trees from the beginning.. “What, I won’t even see a shoot for a few weeks?!” .. “What, some need to be in the fridge for 12 weeks before I can plant them?!” ..

Great reminders already about the value of patience through change, trusting that the seeds are working their magic, and of the power of hope – focussing on the desired outcome and what starts invisibly to the eye, rather than on what isn’t there yet.

Looking forward to sharing the continued insights.
